Bridgestone and Leukaemia & Blood Cancer New Zealand set out to put a cap on blood cancer
New Zealanders are being urged to help put a cap on blood cancer and show their support for Leukaemia & Blood Cancer New Zealand (LBC) from Thursday, 1 November simply by putting a valve cap on their tyres.
Specially designed teal blue valve caps are being sold by Bridgestone for $2 each, with the sole aim of funding the support, research and advocacy work conducted by Leukaemia & Blood Cancer New Zealand in curing and preventing leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma.
All New Zealanders are being asked to get behind the cause and ‘put a cap on it’ – demonstrating their support on anything that needs tyres: cars, bikes, wheelbarrows, trucks, golf carts, or prams to name a few. The teal blue valve caps are available in Bridgestone stores throughout the country as well as online via www.putacaponit.co.nz.
“We are thrilled with Bridgestone’s on-going commitment to Leukaemia & Blood Cancer New Zealand” Like Bridgestone, we are in all corners of the country, making sure we are there for everyone seeking our support as they cope with their blood cancer diagnosis,” said LBC CEO, Peter Fergusson.
“We urge everyone to ‘put a cap on it’ this year. LBC receives no government funding so every valve cap sold adds up to substantial funding and vital support for patients and their families.”
Blood cancers are a significant form of cancer in New Zealand, with an estimated 21,000 residents living with a blood cancer or related condition, and a further six diagnosed each day.
Bridgestone Director of New Zealand Business, John Staples, says a small contribution will make a big difference to the lives of those facing blood cancer.
“While $2 a valve cap may sound insignificant, collectively all New Zealanders can make a difference to blood cancer patients and their families just by buying these great looking teal valve caps,” Mr Staples said.
“The teal caps are a great visual representation of New Zealand’s support for Leukaemia & Blood Cancer New Zealand, and we can’t wait to see all the creative ways people ‘put a cap on it’ to help beat blood cancer – from farmers and tractors, to kids and their bikes or tradies and their wheelbarrows.”
Bridgestone New Zealand launched its partnership with LBC in 2017, raising more than $50,000 through the sale of blue caps last year and a further $50,000 in other LBC fundraisers like Shave for a Cure and the Step Up Sky Tower Stair Challenge.
