24 October 2018: Local Thai restaurant favourite, Pla Thong Thai, has won Menulog NZ’s first ever ‘People’s Choice Award’, receiving hundreds of votes from local fans.
The online food delivery service invited Kiwis to vote for their favourite restaurant as part of its biannual Restaurant Awards series, which aims to recognise and reward the hard work of local New Zealand restaurants and neighbourhood eateries.
Based in the central city suburb of Mount Eden, and well-known for its friendly family vibe, Pla Thong Thai prides itself on its authentic Thai dining experience.
Owner Thanet Singcharoenchai says the restaurant serves its customers tasty Thai that combines both new and old styles of the cuisine.
“We love being able to share our passion for Thai food with our local community. Our team’s aim is to craft Thai meals with fresh, fascinating ingredients that set our customers taste buds alight.
“We feel very proud to have won the Menulog award. Being on the food delivery platform has ex-posed us to more customers in our area, meaning we get to cook yummy food for more people.”
Pla Thong Thai was closely followed by St Heliers Indian Restaurant, Khana Indian for Food. Khana specialises in vegan, vegetarian, gluten free and dairy free dishes, with authentic Indian fla-vours.
Pla Thong Thai won $5,000 as part of the People’s Choice Award with runners up Khana Indian, taking home $2,500. One lucky voter was also rewarded with $2,500 worth of Menulog vouchers for their two cents!
Menulog’s Commercial Director, Rory Murphy said, “The Menulog Restaurant Awards are a great way to recognise and reward the diverse range of restaurants that work each and every day to serve delicious food to people across the country. We have over 900 restaurant partners so receiving one of the bi-annual awards is no mean feat. This is a fantastic achievement for these local restaurants.”
The overall Menulog Restaurant Award winner, which was selected based on popularity and cus-tomer reviews, was Tuk Tuk Thai in West Auckland with category winners including:
• Best Indian – Own Masala Restaurant and takeaway, Tauranga
• Best Burger – Freddy’s Burger and Pizza, Henderson
