Their Splore performance is part of their world-wide tour marking the 30th anniversary of their influential debut release ‘Straight Out The Jungle’.
Hailing from hip-hop’s golden age, the group burst onto the New York scene in 1988, becoming the founding members of the Native Tongues Collective with the likes of De La Soul, A Tribe Called Quest, Black Sheep and later Mos Def.
Globally respected for their jazz fusion sound, Afrika Baby Bam, Mike Gee and DJ Sammy B were the first hip hop group to embrace other forms of dance music, basically inventing hip house with their masterpiece I’ll House You, while their Afrocentric philosophy and coolest of the cool vibe have seen them become hip hop royalty over the course of their celebrated career.
The Jungle Brothers’ fearless approach to their genre has undoubtedly changed the face of hip hop forever, influencing the sound of future generations of artists, musicians and producers alike.
Also added to the Splore 2019 line up is the internationally revered Brazilian, DJ Marky.
From igniting dancefloors across the globe to producing some of the most seminal Drum & Bass tracks to date, he continues to amass an unsurpassable list of achievements, all driven by his dedication and unique flair. He is widely regarded to be technically one of the top DJs in Drum & Bass. Retaining the same passion for music as the day that it all started, DJ Marky stays at the forefront of not just the Drum & Bass scene, but also the music world at large.
And breakthrough UK hip hop/soul artists, Children of Zeus, will make their New Zealand debut at Splore. The Mancunian duo of Konny Kon (formerly part of Broke’N’English) and Tyler Daley, an in-demand soul singer who has lent vocals and writing talents to Soul II Souls’ Caron Wheeler, 50 Cent, Lisa Mafia and Bugsy Malone.
