Maori Cuisine champion and innovator to be honoured in MOTAT exhibition (opening 23 October)
Monique Fiso – renowned chef and Maori cuisine champion will be onsite at the Museum of Transport & Technology (MOTAT) in Auckland this coming Monday to oversee the final installation of an exhibit honouring her Hiakai cuisine initiative.
With the launch of her Wellington restaurant fast approaching, MOTAT is justifiably thrilled to have secured Monique’s time and attention to take part in this upcoming exhibition – The Innovators.
Hiakai was initially run as a pop-up style dining experience and became renowned for Monique’s Michelin-style interpretation of Maori cuisine and her use of indigenous ingredients.
Critical acclaim followed and as Monique’s work with Hiakai grew in popularity so too have the number of practitioners, growers, and suppliers shining a contemporary light on Maori food heritage.
MOTAT has selected Hiakai to be one of the four visionary kiwi initiatives to headline The Innovators exhibition’s newest incarnation.
The Innovators, is a long-term MOTAT installation, will re-open on Tuesday 23 October with four inspiring new exhibits.
Monique Fiso and her Hiakai story will be showcased alongside Goodnature’s poison-free pest eradication equipment which is aiding conservation efforts globally, ARANZ’s Medical laser scanning technology that is transforming the treatment of diabetes related wounds and Lanaco’s respiratory filter masks, made of New Zealand wool from purpose- bred sheep, to protect those living in the world’s most polluted cities.
MOTAT’s exhibition The Innovators celebrates not only the achievements of these New Zealand leaders but the entire process of innovation. Visitors gain a unique insight into the personal attributes and thought processes of these ordinary Kiwis who have achieved extraordinary feats.
From conceptualisation to creation, including setbacks and all the learnings along the way The Innovators is about kiwi ingenuity in action and will inspire our future world leaders and entrepreneurs.
The Innovators exhibition has previously shared the personal stories and hard-won wisdom of Peter Beck - Rocket Lab, Rod Drury - Xero, Ian Taylor - Animation Research Limited, Frances Valintine - The Mind Lab by Unitec and Dr Keith Alexander - Springfree Trampoline.
