Stan Walker to inspire students and back Waikato Regional Theatre
Stan Walker is coming to Hamilton next Tuesday to meet and inspire high school students from across the Waikato and throw his support behind the new Waikato Regional Theatre.
The hitmaker’s visit to The Tron will be a prelude to his upcoming New Takeover Tour that will bring him back to the city for a show at the Altitude and Gravity venue on 16 November.
On Tuesday, Stan will be joined by Mike Chunn of Play It Strange, the leading support agency for young NZ songwriters, for a life experience and music performance workshop hosted by Zeal Hamilton, in partnership with Momentum Waikato. They will challenge the teens to develop their abilities and aspire to a career in music and the performing arts.
Stan and Mike will then be available for media interviews next to the site planned for the Waikato Regional Theatre, at the Riff Raff Statue in Embassy Park in the South End of Victoria Street.
The Waikato Regional Theatre will be a international-standard 1300-seat multi-purpose performing arts centre, with the acoustics and staging to host everything from ballet and orchestras, to kapa haka and rock gigs, to plays and musicals, to dance and stand-up comedy.
A major goal of the theatre project is that young people will be able to experience world-class shows on the same stage where they themselves can perform. Opportunities like Stan and Mike’s workshop will therefore be a regular feature of the theatre’s program.
Students from high schools across the region, from Coromandel and Tuakau to Pio Pio and Turangi, will be attending the workshop event at Zeal Hamilton’s youth centre. Schools were invited by Momentum Waikato to send two students and a staff member, currently 86 students and 41 staff from 39 schools are expected to attend.
