New Naming Rights sponsor for iconic Wellington event
Sport Wellington is excited to announce Brendan Foot Supersite is the Naming Rights sponsor for the 2019 Wellington Round the Bays. In its 42nd year, Round the Bays is truly an iconic Wellington event, benefiting both the participants and the city.
Taking place on 17 February 2019, Wellington Round the Bays is the third largest participation event in New Zealand and the largest in the lower North Island.
Already a sponsor of Round the Bays for many years, as well as sponsoring the Central Pulse and Wellington Phoenix, Matthew Foot, Dealer Principal, of Brendan Foot Supersite in Lower Hutt, saw the Naming Rights opportunity as a good fit with their community support and sport focus.
“Brendan Foot Supersite is a local family business and we support local events. Our decision to extend our involvement of the Round the Bays was an easy decision”, says Matthew Foot.
“With over 130 staff at our three locations we are one of the largest and most well-established vehicle sales and service locations in the Wellington region. We are fully aware of the importance health and wellness plays in people’s lives. The Round the Bays event is all about participation, and we encourage our team to participate every year.”
Round the Bays has over 14,000 people from across the wider Wellington region participate in an event that showcases our beautiful waterfront but is so much more than the distance covered.
“Round the Bays contributes to our vision of everyone in the greater Wellington region having a life-long involvement in sport and active recreation,” says Phil Gibbons, CEO, Sport Wellington.
“During the Round the Bays campaign, Sport Wellington aims to increase awareness of the importance of physical activity for your health and wellbeing. It is an event for ‘all’ – inclusive of age, income and ability. The importance of being active and the benefit it has to your health is a message that most people are now well aware of. Running and walking is a great activity as all you need to do it is a good pair of shoes!”
With a call to action of ‘Get Involved!’ participation is the goal, and so the 2019 event will continue the popular category that was introduced in 2018 called Active Families whereby children aged 12 and under can ride their scooter, accompanied by an adult, on the 6.5km course.
“The finisher’s festival at Kilbirnie Park is a fantastic end to the event. Our sponsors get involved to help us create a festival atmosphere so there are plenty of activities to keep participants engaged – or just to chill out, relax and enjoy a picnic lunch”.
Registrations for the 2019 event open on 1 November 2018 with social media (@BFSRTB) updates starting from Thursday. Earlybird registrations close on 30 November and standard pricing on 31 January 2019.
