GARDENA joins Garden to Table family in time for new fundraiser

Think school fundraising initiatives and many of us will have flashbacks to mountains of chocolate bars being hauled home in school bags. This week, there wasn’t a sugar-laden item in sight at Glenfield Primary School when new Garden to Table sponsor, GARDENA, visited to support the charities’ latest green fundraiser.

GARDENA delivered a new garden hose to the school, for being one of the first five schools to sign up for Garden to Table’s Great New Zealand Seedling Sale.

The other schools to be the first to sign up to the national Seedling Sale and receive a GARDENA hose include; Mairangi Bay Primary School, Konini Primary School, Ngati Toa School and Casebrook Intermediate.

It was an apt way to celebrate GARDENA coming on board as a School Supporter for Garden to Table. The children loved the new addition to their garden and were joined by a familiar face from TVNZ’s HomeMADE and Garden to Table Garden Ambassador, Dan MacKay, who enjoyed mucking in with the children and showing them the best way to water their growing produce.

The 2018 Great New Zealand Seedling Sale is an initiative for Garden to Table schools throughout New Zealand to hold a community seedling sale.

Participating schools will sell seedlings that they have grown themselves, to fundraise for their school Garden to Table programme.

Seedlings can be purchased from participating schools, with over 40 schools around the country having already signed up.

Nick Bright, General Manager, GARDENA New Zealand, congratulated the children on the great job they were doing in their school garden.

“We are really pleased to be able to help schools throughout the country who are involved with the Garden to Table programme nurture their gardens. We wish all the schools involved the best of luck in raising funds for their continued involvement with Garden to Table,” said Bright.

Garden to Table Project & Event Manager, Natalie Edwards said; “The children were absolutely thrilled to receive their new hose which will assist them in growing their own food, as well as kick start the growth of their seedlings for the Seedling Sale. We are very happy to welcome GARDENA on board as part of the Garden to Table family!“

The Great New Zealand Seedling Sale will take place over Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 October 2018 at participating schools. To see the full list of participating schools, check out www.greatnzseedlingsale.co.nz
