Spark’s Kupu app proves popular this Māori Language Week
This Māori Language Week, Spark and Te Aka Māori Dictionary launched Kupu, an interactive mobile app powered by Google that helps people learn Te Reo Māori translations by exploring the objects around them.
The app has proved popular with over 80,000 people using the app to translate over 1 million photos in just over 5 days. The app is also currently the #1 Top Free app in the New Zealand Google Playstore and Apple App Store where it has sat since the first day of launch.
The response from people overseas wanting to download Kupu has also been noted and Spark is working on making the app available in other countries.

Kupu is really easy to use. Users simply take a picture, Kupu will then use image recognition to identify what the object is in the picture and provide Te Reo Māori translations for the object(s).
