Biggest yet to come for 2018 Otago
Polyfest
(Thursday 13 September 2018) - The biggest nights of this year’s Otago Polyfest are almost here. A showcase of the region’s most accomplished performers is on tonight (Thursday) and a community concert on Friday.
Thursday’s session begins at 6pm, with high school groups coming from across Otago.
“The groups we’ll see tonight are young people at the top of their game. You’ll see a dynamic blend of highly skilled rakatahi, expressing their identity with power and mastery,” says Co-Chair Pip Laufiso.
Fabulous local talent will be on stage on Friday night in Te Moananui a Kiwa Community Concert, celebrating 25 years of the Otago Polyfest. The concert starts at 4pm.
Thousands of performers have crossed Polyfest stages over the years and many continue to strengthen their skills nationally and internationally in kapa haka groups, performing arts schools, productions, church choirs and bands.
“Thursday night has become the showcase spotlight and
we pack in a big crowd and hope that people who haven’t
been before will come along” says Ms Laufiso. Dunedin
doesn’t get enough shows like this and we can promise that
it will be a great night out for the whole
whanau.”
