Help FESTA to put on a spectacular celebration of architecture, community and food for Christchurch!
FESTA, the vibrant biennial weekend celebration of urban creativity, community and regeneration, is asking the New Zealand public to help bring thousands back into the city centre by supporting its crowdfunding campaign for its headline event, FEASTA!.
On Saturday 20 October FEASTA! – a spectacular celebration of architecture, community and food – will be live for one night only. As Christchurch’s biggest and brightest street party, which is free and open to all, FEASTA! is a showcase for the creative and positive things happening in our city.
For its last four editions, FESTA has brought life back into the central city and supported Christchurch’s regeneration. This year’s festival explores the interconnections between food and the city.
“Events like FESTA reinforce the vital message that food, hospitality and creativity are the cornerstone of the central city recovery,” says James Stringer, of development and investment company Box 112. “We want people to associate the central city with excellent hospitality and a good night out enjoying food and company in well designed spaces. It’s great that a free, public festival wants to get in behind all that developers and businesses are doing in the city."
Collaborators from a diverse range backgrounds are collectively working to make FEASTA! an event that will fire up the public’s imaginations and appetites and bring energy into the city.
Students from Australia, Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch are fabricating imaginative installations that explore themes from The Future of Food to Public Feasting, while food groups, hospitality businesses, artists, performers and musicians from across New Zealand provide activities, markets, pop-ups, performance and lots of great things to eat and drink.
FESTA Director Jessica Halliday says that “because we value everyone’s right to move around and enjoy the city, FEASTA! is not ticketed. Instead, we are running a crowdfunding campaign via Pledgeme and asking members of the public to participate in helping to create this spectacular feast of food and citymaking for the public to enjoy by making a donation in advance.”
All are invited to experience a reimagined Christchurch and to come into the city to discover new things and places, and enjoy a night out in the heart of our city.
