Swimming New Zealand And AUSTSWIM To Announce Partnership
Swimming New Zealand (SNZ) and the Australasian Council for the Teachers of Swimming and Water Safety (AUSTSWIM) are pleased to announce a new partnership agreement aimed at providing a single training qualification supported by wider coverage of courses across New Zealand.
Swimming New Zealand and AUSTSWIM have formally signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to work together with an aim to finalise details of the partnership shortly.
Carl Partridge, AUSTSWIM CEO said “This is an important step forward for the education and training of existing and future Teachers of Swimming and Water Safety in New Zealand and will open up opportunities across the country for the swimming and water safety community”
AUSTSWIM would like to thank the New Zealand Recreation Association (NZRA) for their ongoing support in the delivery of courses on behalf of AUSTSWIM. Andrew Leslie, Chief Executive of New Zealand Recreation Association, added “We have been proud to work with AUSTSWIM over recent years successfully delivering courses on their behalf. The partnership between AUSTSWIM and Swimming New Zealand will be of great benefit to the New Zealand Swimming Community as it will deliver one single system for people looking to become a teacher of swimming and water safety.”
Swimming New Zealand CEO, Steve Johns said “Both Carl and I would like to thank everyone involved, including both boards and the wider New Zealand Swimming and Water Safety community, for their passionate and dedicated work in making this happen”. Steve added “All parties are working together to make the transition as smooth as possible for all past, current and future teachers and will continue to make the experience a positive one and look forward to sharing the full details of our partnership in the near future.”
AUSTSWIM
AUSTSWIM, the Australasian Council for the Teaching of Swimming and Water Safety, was established in 1979 with the objective of developing consistent and better quality training of Swimming and Water Safety Teachers across Australia and Internationally.
Today AUSTSWIM is a pre-eminent, dynamic, for purpose not for profit organisation educating teachers of swimming, water safety and aquatic fitness to the highest international standard.
There are currently over 33,500 AUSTSWIM Teachers in Australia and internationally. In the 2016/17 year, AUSTSWIM trained in excess of 12,000 candidates across 9 countries and partners with aligned organisations to deliver education and support safer aquatic participation and drowning prevention strategies

SWIMMING NEW ZEALAND
SNZ is the National Sports Organisation (NSO) for competitive pool and open water swimming in New Zealand. SNZ also has an active role in the promotion of water safety, learn to swim, education and certification of swimming instructors and swim schools. SNZ is a core member of Water Safety New Zealand.
SNZ provides training for those involved in learn to swim education. Their aim is to ensure swim teachers receive support and information and are recognised for the contribution they make in ensuring every New Zealander has the opportunity to learn to swim.
