Switzerland takes a dominant position

Switzerland takes a dominant position in both Men’s and Women’s Slalom on Day 3 of the Audi quattro Winter Games at Coronet Peak

Coronet Peak, Queenstown, August 29 2018 - It was a day of incredibly athletic skiing by the men and women competing in the alpine slalom event today in conditions which were described as ‘buckle up and hang on!’ by some. Charlotte Chable of Switzerland who is based at Coronet Peak training for the southern hemisphere winter laid down a scorching first and second run to take the overall win in the Ladies slalom today and scored an 8 point FIS result.

17-year-old Neja Dvornik of Slovenia who has been skiing very impressively throughout the ANC Cup series put down two very solid runs with an outstanding second place overall. Third place on the podium today went to New Zealand’s Piera Hudson who laid down the challenge on run 2 to have the second fastest time on that run and finish third in today’s 2 run slalom.

‘It’s a really good field here…there are a lot of girls here who ski World Cup slalom so yeah..I’m really stoked to be on the podium today’, said an excited Piera Hudson.

In a field of world-class female athletes, young Queenstowner and NZ Winter Olympian Alice Robinson finished strongly after some mistakes on the first run, finishing in 6thposition, with 17-year-old Alex Hull also of Queenstown producing a very solid performance, finishing in 10thplace.

In the men’s field it was another very closely fought battle, heading into the second run Swiss World Cup athlete Max Roeisland was the leader, followed by fellow World Cupper, Slovakian Adam Zampa. Going into the second run in third position was Alex Leever of the USA. Skiing extremely well in challenging conditions on the middle section of the course produced a new leader, Switzerland’s Marc Rochat who laid down a blistering run to take the Gold medal position and scored a 6 point FIS result, the best points possible at this Continental Cup FIS race. Adam Zampa from Slovakia impressed again with more incredible skiing, finishing in second position. Moving into third place today with a fast second run was Swiss World Cup skier, Sandro Simonet.

New Zealand’s Adam Barwood skied into 24thplace and Willis Feasey into 32ndplace. Both are looking forward to producing solid performances moving into day 2 of the men’s slalom tomorrow.

Racing continues tomorrow in the Audi quattro NZ Winter Games with the second day of slalom racing on the ‘Outwide’ Course at Coronet Peak. Expect another day of outstanding and exciting ski racing from a world-class field of athletes enjoying the start of the 2018/19 international FIS completion season at the Audi quattro Winter Games at Coronet Peak
