Summer Shakespeare’s 2019 Hamlet is Cast
Wellington Summer Shakespeare have cast their Hamlet for their 2019 production, Stevie Hancox-Monk.
No stranger to Shakespeare, Stevie has performed Bianca on the Globe stage in London, Midsummer Night's Dream with Lisa Wolpe and the Prague Shakespeare Company, worked with renowned performer and author Ben Crystal, played Emilia in The Two Noble Kinsmen, Queen in Richard II and Adriana in Summer Shakespeare’s The Comedy of Errors earlier this year.
As well as being well versed with Shakespeare, Stevie regularly performs and directs with the improv company PlayShop where she was a founding member of the long form game This Fair Verona in 2013, an improvised Shakespeare show that has been enormously popular and continues to be performed for schools and functions.
“I've been feeling a mixture of elation, excitement, a few nerves, speechlessness, but mostly, I feel incredibly honoured to have this opportunity.” says Hancox-Monk “I am very much looking forward to all the challenges and joys of the character, reading the play a million times over, and, of course, working with David.”
Stevie has a strong history with core sponsor Victoria University, graduating with Bachelor of Arts in Theatre and French. During that time she performed in incredibly exciting productions such as Megan Evan’s Wild Man and Dramaturg Lori Leigh’s The Two Noble Kinsmen. She’s also starred in some of the most exciting new plays being produced in New Zealand, such as Finnius Teppett’s Marine Snow and Everybody Cool Lives Here’s Wake Up Tomorrow.
Hamlet will be staged from the 15th February – 2nd March 2019 at The Dell, Wellington Botanical Gardens.
