Joel Tobeck is Back on Stage for Mr Burns!
This September will mark the return of
high-profile New Zealand actor Joel Tobeck
as he takes to the stage for the first time in over a
decade. Tobeck will be stepping into the titular role for
Silo Theatre’s genre-bending new production of
Mr Burns, A Post-Electric
Play.
"I've chosen to return to the stage after 15 years because I needed the challenge. I’ve learnt so much since the last time, I want to see who I am as an actor' says Tobeck.
It has been 15 years since the
beloved actor starred in a theatre show and there will be a
whole generation of people who’ve never had the
opportunity to see Tobeck act, sing and dance live on stage.
Fittingly, his homecoming is for a production directed by
long-time friend and collaboratorOliver
Driver. The pair last worked together on The
Rocky Horror Show, with Mr Burns set to be a
mightily different drama slash comedy slash musical, yet
equally epic in nature.
Tobeck boasts an incredible career in both international and nationally made films, TV shows and theatre, including Sons of Anarchy, Ash vs Evil Dead, Shortland Street, The Doctor Blake, Mysteries,Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, Shortland Street, Xena: Warrior Princess, The Water Horse, Eagle vs Shark, Without A Trace and Young Hercules where he worked alongside the then yet to be famous Ryan Gosling.
