On the Auckland season announcement

On Tuesday we announced our upcoming Auckland season.
In the accompanying press release I made reference to the #metoo movement, #timesup, and the case of Harvey Weinstein as context for our choice of productions in this season.
It has become very clear that referencing these movements has offended and upset many people, some deeply.
This was not my intention. I am very sorry, and wish to offer a heartfelt apology for the offence that my words have caused.
I believe theatre is fundamentally about celebrating the diversity of the human condition. It is about respecting and celebrating the rights and freedoms of all individuals.
I have aimed to do this in everything Pop-up Globe has done since it started, and am extremely grateful for the huge support we have received.
We are a young organisation, we are learning, and we don’t get everything right. It is clear that today we haven’t.
As a company we are listening to your feedback, and reflecting on our programming, our casting, and the future development of our company.
I wish to thank everyone who cares enough about what we do to give us their feedback. In this case, I’ve let you down. You inspire us to be and do better every day.
Thank you.
