Auckland Diwali Festival organisers are looking for keen volunteers to help at this year’s event, on Saturday, 20 and
Sunday, 21 October.
Volunteers are an important part of events delivered by Auckland Tourism, Events and Economic Development (ATEED), which
produces Auckland’s major cultural festivals on behalf of Auckland Council.
“We’re really proud of our Team AKL events volunteers,” says festival producer Leilana Meredith. “They are Auckland
residents from all walks of life and backgrounds, including a lot of international students, who generously give their
time, energy and enthusiasm to help make our events a success and festival-goers’ experiences positive.”
The volunteer time commitment is flexbile. Some volunteers might work one four-hour shift during an event, while others
might work multiple shifts every day of the event, as their time allows.
Roles can include being festival ambassadors, providing event information to festival-goers or assisting with workshops.
Diwali volunteers receive a t-shirt, snacks, meals or meal vouchers (depending on the length of their shifts) and a
certificate of participation.

Everyone keen to take part needs to complete an online application, which includes submitting information for a Ministry
of Justice check, and reading and accepting the ATEED volunteers policy. Details will be provided to you by return email

“Volunteering for an event like Diwali is a great way to see a new side to these events and Auckland,” says Leilana
Meredith. “It’s a great way to learn or develop new skills and experience that benefits your job or studies, and a great
way to meet new people.
