Screening: Eight Filmworks by Ana Mendieta
Cinema Deluxe, Embassy Theatre, $10
In association with the exhibition The earth looks upon us / Ko Papatūānuku te matua o te tangata, Adam Art Gallery Te Pātaka Toi is pleased to present a special screening of eight short filmworks by Cuban-American artist, Ana Mendieta. These capture Mendieta’s distinctive ‘earth-body’ sculptures executed in remote locations in Iowa, Mexico and Cuba between 1974 and 1981. The screening has been made possible due to the recent digitisation of the artist’s Super-8 films and U-matic video, a project undertaken by the Estate of Ana Mendieta Collection, LLC. This rare opportunity to see Mendieta’s work will be introduced by Gabriela Salgado, an expert on Mendieta and artists of the ‘global south’, who is currently Artistic Director at Te Tuhi, Auckland. With thanks to the Estate of Ana Mendieta Collection, LLC, and Galerie Lelong & Co., New York.
$10, advance booking is essential as seating is limited. Book your tickets here:
