Unchained XL is a British born Nigerian New Zealand Hip Hop artist and producer with a unique, afrocentric sound that is easily recognizable as his own.
‘What you Said’ is an afrobeat-laced grime inspired track with a hard-hitting message.
The song depicts Unchained XL confronting an unnamed friend/associate about their persistent failure to follow up on their promises and resolutions.
The music video for ‘What you Said’ was filmed across multiple cities during Unchained XL’s debut UK tour with Afro Cluster and Mungos HiFi in April.

In his EP ‘Foreign Legacy’, UXL blends traditional afrobeat-inspired textures and rhythms with various styles of hip hop, utilising a combination of live instruments and synths. This EP has overarching themes of faith, identity, justice, virtue and cultural innovation.
‘What you Said’ follows up the afrobeat groove track ‘But Do They Know’ ft. Jess B & Nuel Nonso’.
UXL draws both musical and lyrical inspiration from artists such as Fela Kuti, Jidenna, M.anifest and Lecrae. Supported by his live band, UXL delivers a highly energetic and convicting performance that will leave you searching for more.
Since the tour, UXL has been working steadily toward a second EP, which is set to include several feature artists from the UK, and is scheduled for release early 2019.
