Story Writing Celebrated at Meteor Kid’s Show
Keeping with tradition, The Meteor Theatre is back with another July School Holiday Kids show; Professor Novum’s Adventure’s in Orbit! A Meteor fundraising production, the show will be a first for the theatre and the community with the script being adapted from stories written by children in the community.
Earlier this year in February, The Meteor put out a call to children in the community to submit stories they’d written to inspire the script of their July School Holiday’s Kid’s show. The story writing competition ran for a month and the call out to community was well and truly answered with a total of 30 stories submitted from children all over the Waikato! With so many entries The Meteor team had their work cut out for them choosing just one story from the 30 entries. In the end three stories were chosen to be directly adapted into the script by writer and director Benny Marama, the remaining 27 stories will also be referenced in the show.
“We have so many talented, young writers in the Waikato, and it’s been incredible reading all of their hilarious, weird and wonderful stories,” says Marama. “The standard was so high, so I look forward to reading more of their work!”
A show supported by The Meteor Supporters team, ORBIT, Professor Novum’s Adventure’s in Orbit will be the first ever ORBIT project.
“We wanted our first ever ORBIT Project to be something that benefited the community” says ORBIT organiser Hannah Mooney “Benny, has done such a good job as a writer incorporating all the stories and making all these kid’s ideas come to life”
A rollicking adventure and a celebration of imagination, creativity and what it means to create your own stories. Following the brilliantly eccentric Professor Novum and reluctant assistant Lucia on their journey through multiple worlds to stop the dastardly overlord Eclipsis who is threatening to tear the universe apart! A perfect experience for the school holiday’s Professor Novum’s Adventure’s in Orbit is suitable for 5 to 15-year-old kids and for those adults who are still a kid at heart!
The show is on at The Meteor Theatre 10.30am and 1pm daily from Tuesday 17th to Saturday 21st July. Tickets are available at http://themeteor.co.nz/event/professor-novums-adventures-in-orbit/
