Hamilton Musical Theatre
performer and ‘triple threat’ Gwen Lyon is performing a
series of concerts documenting Musical Theatre through the
decades to raise money to support her Masters of Musical
Theatre at Guildford School of Acting in England.
Lyon is due to begin her studies at the prestigious training institute in September 2018, after being accepted into the schools Master’s programme, which is renowned for producing ‘triple threats’ –actors, singers and dancers.
The concert series features two shows; THEN on July 13 at The Waikato Diocesan School for Girls Chapel and NOW on July 29 at The Meteor Theatre. The idea behind the concerts is that each show represents a different time period in Musical Theatre. THEN documents Musical Theatre from 1925 to 1975 and NOW showcases Musical Theatre songs from 1975 to the present day.
“I came up with the concept when looking at my own life up until this point” says performer Gwen Lyon. Who has grown up performing, with her most notable roles being ‘Sophie’ in Mamma Mia (2015), ‘Cosette’ in Les Misérables (2017), and ‘Sister Mary Robert’ in Sister Act (2018) all with Hamilton Operatic Society.
“Musical Theatre songs, both old and new have had a great impact on my life. I’ve seen and performed in a lot of Musicals so it seems fitting to honour all of the musicals throughout time that have helped me get to where I am today.”
Showcasing Lyon’s talent and celebrating Musical Theatre, both concerts are set to be an unforgettable night at the theatre with special guest performances, dancers and a live band led by David Sidwell.
