FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
New Awards Category for Māori Language Programme
at the 2018 NZ Television Awards
The NZ Television Awards is proud to announce a brand new award category for Māori content in 2018.
The Best Reo Māori Programme category will honour television programmes of any genre that are primarily aimed at a Māori speaking audience and which feature a majority of Māori language dialogue.
The new award joins the Best Māori Programme award which is open to programmes made for a broad audience that make a conscious effort to reveal something of the past, present or future Māori world. The Hui, produced by Great Southern Television and airing on Three, won the category in 2017.
Both awards categories are sponsored by Te Māngai Pāho.
Larry Parr, Chief Executive of Te Mangai Paho says "Te Māngai Pāho is pleased to once again support the New Zealand Television Awards. We are particularly pleased that the organising committee has seen fit to differentiate between best Māori programme and best Māori language programme. Establishing the award for the Best Reo Māori Programme accords the language the status it deserves."
Entries for the 2018 NZ Television Awards open on July 2.
