TVNZ Collection Project Commences at Ngā Taonga Sound & Vision
Ngā Taonga Sound & Vision has announced that it has commenced a project to put the TVNZ collection it acquired responsibility for in 2014, online. The Archive will have the metadata of over 400,000 items in the collection searchable in their online catalogue – ngataonga.org.nz, in August 2018.
Ngā Taonga Chief Executive, Rebecca Elvy said, “We have completed a considerable amount of work in preparation for making more of this collection available online, including a comprehensive audit of the collection. We have also made significant investment in, and establishment of, ICT infrastructure to enable a comprehensive digital preservation programme to be implemented.
“Now that that this work has largely been completed we are excited to be able to take this next step and then, as resources allow, we will be digitally preserving items in the collection so that they will be directly viewable on our website. This work strongly supports one of our key purposes – to share the audiovisual taonga in these collections with all New Zealanders,” Ms Elvy said.
