Audiences are asked to wonder why they were ever scared of a vegetarian, poetry reading wolf that has fallen victim to a
ton of bad press. Yes, he has incredibly sharp teeth and yellow eyes, and perhaps his own ideas about personal hygiene
are a little feral, but he’s ready to make friends with one girl who is super brave and is about to turn this fairy-tale
on its head.
Suitable for audiences aged 5 and over, BIG BAD WOLF is the perfect introduction to theatre. With a set full of magic and surprise (think a talking couch), plenty of
audience interaction and a story which connects on a number of levels, young theatregoers will be captivated by this
accessible, inventive, high-quality production.

Described by The Australian as “the best children’s theatre in the country”, award-wining artistic director Rosemary Myers leads Windmill Theatre Co to create unique and contemporary theatre inspired by the sophistication and inventiveness of
young people. Since 2002 they’ve created 49 productions, toured across Australia and touched down in Canada, Hong Kong,
Korea, Scotland, Japan and played on Broadway. With multiple-Helpmann Award nominated productions School Dance and Pinocchio, they’ve been pivotal in building Australia’s reputation as a world leader in the creation of top-shelf storytelling
for young people.
Masters of creating inclusive works that twist tales we think we know, Windmill loves the unexpected. Audiences have
seen a radical reinterpretation of the Wizard of Oz, a fame-hungry Pinocchio grab at celebrity, and Rumpelstiltskin rejigged as an overworked fashion designer who just
wants to be loved. With a mischievous sense of fun, playwright Matthew Whittet has reframed the Big Bad Wolf as a vegetarian, poetry-writing people person. It is all about the broccoli and not the
little piggies. This charming piece of theatre explores what it’s like to be just a little bit different and challenges
the presumptions we all make.
Presented as part of Auckland Live’s fantastic family programme Auckland Live Kids 2018, this is an internationally celebrated production which proves friendship can be found in the most unlikely of places.
