Entries Open for Giant Minaret Burn MTB 2019
The top dogs of cross country mountain biking will join together for one of Wanaka’s celebrated MTB events – the Giant Minaret Burn - with entries now open for the single stage event as part of the prestigious Red Bull Defiance.
Entries are now open for the Giant Minaret Burn MTB event that returns to Wanaka, New Zealand on Saturday, the 19th January 2019, bringing together competitive and recreational riders for a spectacular day of high country mountain biking.
Billed as one of New Zealand’s most remote mountain biking events the Giant Minaret Burn MTB is held on the iconic high country Minaret Station located on the western shores of Lake Wanaka.
"This is an exclusive mountain biking event through one of New Zealand's most stunning alpine farming stations that is only accessible by helicopter or barge which makes it unique," says Giant Minaret Burn MTB Event Director Bex Law.
“ It is an extraordinary part of the world to ride through. I got to experience it for the first time this year and was blown away by the incredible beauty and trails. Riders of all backgrounds love this event for its combination of endurance, elevation, 4WD and single track.”
Designed by Red Bull athlete and New Zealand Ironman champion Braden Currie, the Giant Minaret Burn MTB is held as a 62km single stage event as part of the Red Bull Defiance weekend.
“ The event attracts experienced and recreational riders for both the men’s and women’s open category’s and with Giants support we have awesome prizes for each,” says Law. “ It’s highly competitive at the front end of the field and last years winners completed in less than four hours with Annabel Anderson finishing in three hours 42 minutes and Ty Sarginson in three hours 24 minutes.”
Competitors travel over to the event start at Minaret Station by barge. The field then rides back towards the Wanaka finish line at the Red Bull Defiance race hub at Edgewater Resort. Law says with only 120 spots available it's a highly sought-after opportunity.
“ If you're lucky enough to claim a spot on the barge then this event is one not to miss in 2019. There is going to be an unbeatable vibe at Edgewater Resort with an awesome finish line and prize giving and the opportunity to hang out with everyone racing over that weekend.”
