Four Iconic New Zealand Destinations in Two Weeks

On a road trip like no other, The AM Show, supported by Chorus will be broadcasting from the regions of New Zealand in July. The road trip, spanning two weeks and covering four iconic New Zealand destinations - Queenstown, Nelson, Napier and Rotorua - will showcase the people, places and stories of each region alongside the news of the day.

The AM Show, hosted by Duncan Garner, Amanda Gillies and Mark Richardson is simulcast live on TV and radio. Taking this multi-platform show on the road is an unprecedented move with the whole show - set and all - being packed up and taken to each of the four locations and set-up in time for the show to start before 6am each morning.

Duncan Garner says of all the silly things they’ve done - and there’s plenty - this takes the cake.

“We've decided to test the annoying LED alarm clocks in motels across the country and bring The AM Show to you. We have stripped the walls, unscrewed the desks, and grabbed the cameras and the microphones. Hopefully I can whip this rabble into something resembling what we normally do but this time we do it from your place!”

“'Everyone is from a region, sometimes we just end up working in the city. My grandparent's roots are in Gisborne and I call Northland home. Thanks to Chorus for backing us, I love a good roadie, and this seems a long way from our original RadioLIVE Drive roadie in 2013 which involved an orange Holden Commodore, two of us and a budget of $20 a day for two weeks.”

Amanda Gillies, a Gisborne local says: “I’m from a small town and I’m forever a small town girl at heart... so I cannot wait to leave our Auckland studio, get on the road and rediscover some of my favourite regions in New Zealand. It’s going to be a lot of fun - I can’t wait to meet the locals, try the local food (and, ahem, wineries) and immerse myself in everything each place has to offer.”

Mark added, “The current government once said, "It's unacceptable and in this day 'n' age they won't tolerate it." Actually they say that about most things. So in keeping with the spirit of these modern times, it is unacceptable for a man of the people like myself to continue to broadcast from a cushy studio situated in an exclusive and over-priced suburb. In fact I won't tolerate it anymore. The regions of New Zealand are the lifeblood of our country. Although I would like to state for the record that Invercargill is the best city in our country.”

July 2nd - 4th: Queenstown (91.2FM)

July 5th - 6th: Nelson (96FM)

July 9th - 11th: Napier (1368AM / 106.3FM)

July 12th - 13th: Rotorua (95.1FM)

The AM Show’s road trip has been created in conjunction with Chorus to showcase the communities, businesses and people who have embraced the opportunities opened up by fibre broadband.
