Canon’s Oceania Grants Program kicks off for the 12th year running
Tuesday, 5th June 2018: In celebration of World Environment Day, Canon is excited to announce the 2018 Canon Oceania Grants Program is now open
for nominations.
Over the past 12 years, Canon has supported over 70 schools, not-for-profit and community groups with more than $360,000
(NZD) to further their causes and make a difference to both environmental and societal issues in their communities.
This year, Canon is offering three grants each worth $5,000 of both Canon product and cash in-kind. For the first time,
all New Zealanders are invited to nominate their favourite school, not-for-profit or community group, before submissions
open on 20th June 2018. The public will also be able to vote for their top finalists before the winners are announced in
September.
Winners will be selected based on the positive impact their project has on their environment or community, as well as
the importance of Canon technology for their project’s success. The winners are sought across three categories:
Environment, Education and Community.
Kim Conner, CEO of Canon New Zealand says the company is thrilled to announce the launch of the 2018 Canon Oceania
Grants Program, bringing to life its corporate philosophy of Kyosei, ‘living and working together for the common good.’
“We’re passionate about celebrating the causes that make a positive change in our community. Each year, I am incredibly
inspired, by not only the high caliber of entries, but also the amazing work these dedicated groups undertake. We
encourage anyone who is part of a social, educational or environmental project to apply,” says Conner.
Last year’s winners, artist Tess Sheerin’s ‘Worth Loving’, Whananaki School and Wingspan Charitable Trust were
acknowledged for the uniqueness of their projects and the positive impact they had on the environment and their
community.
Debbie Stewart, Director and Founder of the Wingspan Charitable Trust says that winning the 2017 Canon Oceania Grants
has made such an impact for Wingspan.
“We have been able to photograph and video the special moments of our birds and our visitors. The Canon XC15 has enabled
us to take high definition videography which is particularly amazing for capturing fast flight and fast light! The
camera has been well used and continues to document the new journeys of Wingspan, together with Canon,” says Stewart.
The 2018 Canon Oceania Grants will be awarded under the following categories:
• 1 x Environmental Grant - NZ$5,000 ($4,000 Canon product and $1,000 cash)
• 1 x Education/School Grant - NZ$5,000 ($4,000 Canon product and $1,000 cash)
• 1 x Community/Social Grant - NZ$5,000 ($4,000 Canon product and $1,000 cash)
Nominations open on 5th June until 19th June 2018. Following which, those nominated as well as the wider public, will be
encouraged to submit their entries online between 20th June to 20th July 2018.
In August, the top six finalists will be selected and the New Zealand public will have the opportunity to vote for the
winners, which will be announced by 15th September 2018.
