Snowplanet’s 3D dining experience a first for New Zealand
An innovative multi-sensorial 3D culinary experience that’s the hit of the London dining scene is making its New Zealand debut at Snowplanet.
‘3D Dining with Gaston’ provides dinner guests with their very own 3D animated show that takes place right on top of their tablecloth.
A tiny, accident-prone chef scurries around between the plates and the cutlery, telling the diner a story and using some rather unusual techniques to create a virtual version of the meal before the real thing is brought out.
Nigel Stewart, Restaurant Manager at Snowplanet, first saw this concept on the internet. But that didn’t prepare him for the impact of experiencing it all first-hand.
“It’s incredible!” he says. “Your table cloth becomes a 3D screen that pulls you into this fantasy world.”
He goes on to explain that the amusing little chef is just part of the show. “Don’t be surprised if a fire-breathing dragon suddenly flies over your plate.”
‘3D Dining with Gaston’ is designed to be a shared experience, where friends and family dine together, enjoy the food and discuss the show.
“This unique 2-hour dining concept takes you and your food on a culinary discovery as Gaston collects ingredients and prepares your three course meal right on your plate.”
The concept is the brainchild of Belgium artists Filip Sterckx and Antoon Verbeeck. It made its debut at the prestigious World Trade Club and Vi Lounge in Dubai, before becoming a must-do dining experience in Belgium, England and Germany.
The 7Summits Restaurant & Bar at Snowplanet has been specially appointed and is the first location in New Zealand to feature this unique animated show. You can make a reservation here.
Nigel Stewart is an enthusiastic advocate. “It takes fine dining to a whole new level. It’s great fun!”
