Financial boost for young Wellington performing artist to achieve their dreams
The Dame Malvina Major Foundation is offering talented young performing artists in the Wellington region the chance to
‘share the dream’ through its Arts Excellence Awards.
Up to $6,000 will be awarded by the Wellington Committee of the Dame Malvina Major Foundation to young Wellingtonians of
outstanding ability and development potential in the performing arts.
George Troup, Chair of the Wellington Committee, says this year’s adjudicators are Emeritus Professor Peter Walls ONZM,
Chief Executive Officer of Chamber Music NZ and RNZ Concert’s Clarissa Dunn.
“Our high calibre of judges reflects the high calibre of applicants we’ve enjoyed over the last eight years.
“Previous recipients have included composer and violinist Salina Fisher, baritone Christian Thurston, soprano Isabella
Moore, violist Alexa Sangbin Thomson and flautist Hannah Darroch.”
The Dame Malvina Major Foundation assists young New Zealanders in the performing arts to achieve their potential by
providing a range of grants, prizes and scholarships to enableeducation and training opportunities.
The focus of the Foundation’s regional committees is on fostering local talent and supporting their development.
Alongside financial support, this can include offering professional guidance and organising local fundraising events
where artists have the opportunity to perform.
