Peter Shand discusses the work of Luke Willis Thompson

For the closing weekend of Luke Willis Thompson’s exhibition at Adam Art Gallery Te Pātaka Toi we are pleased to host
current Head of Elam School of Fine Arts at the University of Auckland, Peter Shand. He has closely followed Thompson’s
practice for almost a decade and will draw on this knowledge and experience to present an overview of his practice,
locating the concerns of Thompson’s three recent films in relation to earlier artworks and teasing out recurring traits
within his wider body of work.
Peter Shand is known for his research and commentary on contemporary art. He holds a PhD in Art History from the
University of Auckland and an LLM in Intellectual and Cultural Property Law from King’s College, London. Recent
publications include chapters in Working Together: Banner Projects 2013-2018 (on Fiona Jack’s practice, DDMMYY, 2018), The Possibilities of Creativity(Routledge, 2016) and Fiona Pardington: A Beautiful Hesitation (Victoria University Press, 2016).
