Witness Coffee Making Performance Art in Meadow Fresh New Zealand Barista Championship
See the country’s top baristas battle to become Meadow Fresh New Zealand Barista Champion 2018
Wellington coffee lovers have the chance for an amazing day witnessing the search for the country’s top barista at the Meadow Fresh New Zealand Barista Champion 2018.
New Zealand's most talented baristas will be competing in a bid to win the national title in Wellington on Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 April and coffee aficionados are invited to watch the action - for free!
After two days of competition, the barista named Meadow Fresh New Zealand Barista Champion 2018 will win flights and accommodation to represent New Zealand at the World Barista Championship 2018 in Amsterdam this June.
Each barista will give a 15-minute demonstration which will be scored on the taste of beverages served, cleanliness, creativity, technical skill, and presentation. The ever-popular signature drink allows baristas to stretch their imagination and the judges’ palates to incorporate a wealth of coffee knowledge into an expression of their individual tastes and experiences. It will be intense viewing coffee lovers are advised to: grab free tickets, stay well-caffeinated and enjoy the spectacle!
As well as watching the competition action there’s the opportunity to taste specialty coffee and see demonstrations including from Meadow Fresh New Zealand Barista Champion 2017 Dove Chen from Grey Street Kitchen in Hamilton.
The New Zealand Specialty Coffee Association (NZSCA) is the national representative for World Coffee Events, the owners of the World Barista Championship. The NZSCA was formed in 2005 and is the industry body for specialty coffee stakeholders in New Zealand.
