Six New Zealanders have been chosen to join the Commonwealth Games team supporting our athletes on the Gold Coast next month.
ANZ partnered with the New Zealand Olympic Committee to give New Zealanders the chance to join the New Zealand Commonwealth Games team and support the athletes.
More than 2,000 New Zealanders applied to ANZ Join Our Team for roles in team services, with social media, and as team drivers at the Games.
The successful applicants are Allan Jackson (48) and Paul Schultz (24) both from Christchurch, Lisa Peden (30) from Hamilton, and Matt Davies (26), Chelsea Herbert (19) and Kimmi Baillie (43) from Auckland.
The ANZ Commonwealth Games Team Members are led by ANZ ambassador and Olympic gold medal rower Eric Murray, who says the winners will have a unique chance to get close to the action while supporting the athletes.
“It was a tough decision with so many worthy applicants, but the six who were chosen stood out for their personality, attitude and appreciation of the high-performance sporting environment,” says Eric.
“Athletes can’t succeed on their own and rely on help from many others, so those selected will have a really important job, while getting to live and breathe the excitement of the Games.”
The winners will attend the Athletes’ welcome function, and then fly back together with the New Zealand team and attend official functions on their return. Their prizes include 15 nights’ accommodation and $2000 spending money.
