Geoff Sewell to attend NZ Singing School, Napier
Amici Forever founder and “popera” star Geoff Sewell is coming to Napier as the Artist in Residence for the January 2019
New Zealand Singing School.
Geoff, who was raised in Hawkes Bay, is a multi-platinum selling recording artist who achieved international commercial
success through popera group Amici Forever.
Trained at The Boston Conservatory of Music in America, Geoff went on to perform on the West End in London and created
entertainment company, Incognito Artists, of which he is now Global CEO.
After performing at the FA Cup Final at the Millennium Stadium in Wales, Geoff and Simone created the world’s first
multi-platinum selling, pop-opera group Amici Forever, which sold over 3.5 million albums worldwide and had two No.1
albums.
Geoff will mentor the 70-80 Singing School students during his time in Napier and will also perform at public concerts
with the School’s students at concert venues in Hawkes Bay.
Geoff will also provide advice and tips to aspiring singers on how he achieved commercial success as a singer.
“We are absolutely thrilled to have Geoff on board,” says NZ Singing School Trust Chair Helen Walker. “He has so much
wisdom to share with our students – not only about performing, but also about how to promote yourself on the world stage
and be commercially successful as a singer.”
The New Zealand Singing School: Te Wānanga Toi Waiata is a biannual, 11-day residential singing school, held at the
Eastern Institute of Technology, for “emerging talent” classical and musical theatre students who come from all around
New Zealand. It is the only cross-genre school of its kind in the southern hemisphere.
The School includes vocal masterclasses, language classes, lectures and public performance opportunities and provides
experiences that students might not otherwise receive through their regular study or training.
The New Zealand Singing School boasts a world-class faculty of international acclaim, who come from New Zealand,
Australia and Europe.
Students apply by way of online audition, and successful students will have had at least three years of singing tuition.
