Kiwi celebs and experts talk about sex
in new teen web series 'the real sex talk'
Sex, porn, relationships and consent will be put under the spotlight in the new 12-part web series The REAL Sex Talk, launching online on Wednesday 14 March, 2018. Created by Villainesse, the series follows the successful and internationally renowned 2015 campaign #MyBodyMyTerms and has been developed as a resource to educate Kiwi teenagers about sex in an approachable, yet informative, manner.
“Our goal is to equip young people with the tools and credible information that they need in order to make good choices around sex and relationships – in a way that doesn’t send them to sleep,” says Lizzie Marvelly, co-Producer of The REAL Sex Talk and founder of Villainesse blog site. Her colleague and fellow co-Producer Jo Raj adds, “We’ve been lucky enough to have overwhelming support from a variety of New Zealand celebrities who have openly shared their own personal sexual experiences on camera.”
Local medical experts feature in each episode, providing viewers with practical advice and information that answers many of the questions that Kiwi youth have when it comes to sex, sexual health, relationships and identity.
This webseries is supported by Rape Prevention Education, Family Planning and RainbowYOUTH. All three organisations have been consulted on the series, ensuring that the content is up-to-date and relevant to New Zealand youth. Executive Producer Alison Mau adds that the series’ digital format is key: “The REAL Sex Talk has been purposely devised as an online webseries, making it readily accessible and easily shareable between teenagers and their peers as well as via schools and family members.”
The series will be hosted on www.villainesse.com as well as on www.TheWireless.co.nz. The official social media hashtag for the series is #TheREALSexTalk.
Villainesse is a New Zealand website founded by Lizzie Marvelly in 2015, winning Best Blog award at the Canon Media Awards in 2017. Villainesse is a platform that primarily focuses on providing information that is relatable to a younger demographic and has a reputation for bringing controversial and difficult subjects to light.
The REAL Sex Talk is made with support from New Zealand on Air and also received funding from Rape Prevention Education.
