First Local Lightbox Originals Coming Soon
Lightbox continues to expand its commitment to local content by investing directly in local productions, with the first Lightbox Originals arriving on the platform this year.
Lightbox Originals, High Road and Nori Roller Coaster Boy, will both launch on the service next month. Lightbox General Manager, Hema Patel commented on how local content has grown at Lightbox: “From the beginning, Lightbox has supported local talent and projects, steadily expanding our local line-up with classics like Outrageous Fortune and Westside.”
“We’re really thrilled to be taking this crucial next step and investing directly in local productions. New Zealanders are loyal and avid consumers of local content, and we know our customers will love these excellent series.”
Lightbox Original High Road is a comedy drama created by Justin Harwood (The Chills) and starring Mark Mitchinson (Outrageous Fortune). Lightbox commissioned local production company Tomorrowland to transform the award-winning short web series into 8x30 minute episodes exclusively for Lightbox. Season two, coming later this year will be all new episodes and never seen before footage. Creator Justin Harwood said: “We are looking forward to shooting entirely new episodes of the High Road saga for season two, with a pretty rocky road planned for poor old Terry (played by Mark Mitchinson)."
Lightbox Original Nori Roller Coaster Boy is an animated children’s series co-produced by POW Studios in Wellington and Xrisp Media in South Korea, that teaches children the value of friendship through the eyes of a young, timid but cheerful Roller Coaster named Nori.
POW Studios CEO John McKay commented: “POW is delighted to have the great work of Kiwi voice actors, music composers, sound designers, sound editors and mixers showcased in Nori and presented to New Zealand through this exciting new partnership with Lightbox.”
Kiwis are certainly loyal to local with shows like Outrageous Fortune continuing to sit in the Top 10 most watched drama series on Lightbox. Head of Content, Charlotte Hill understands the importance of investing in local: “Supporting our local industry is incredibly important to us. When you see a series stamped with the Lightbox Original brand, it means Lightbox has played a vital part in bringing that project to the screen, directly supporting homegrown talent in the process.”
“Lightbox Originals will be showcased on the service alongside some of the world’s biggest and best shows, The Handmaid’s Tale, The Good Doctor, Vikings and that’s something we are incredibly proud of.”
Both Lightbox Original High Road and Lightbox Original Nori Roller Coaster Boy will launch in March exclusively on Lightbox and more Lightbox Originals will be announced soon.
