Settled side to take on Firebirds

Settled side to take on Firebirds

The Auckland Aces have named a settled side to take on the Wellington Firebirds in the Ford Trophy this Sunday at the Basin Reserve.

Mitchell McClenaghan is the only forced change to the Aces XII with Aniket Parikh dropping out with an elbow injury.

McClenaghan is no stranger to the Auckland Ford Trophy set up, having taken eight wickets in three matches before the Christmas break.

“It’s a great position to be in where we can bring someone like [Mitchell] in and he can work with our younger bowling unit and pass on his experience,” says Aces Coach Mark O’Donnell.

The Aces are coming off the back of an 82-run victory against Northern Districts at Cobham Oval and currently sit second on the Ford Trophy ladder.

“We are tracking well, we learnt from our mistakes against Central and put in a strong all-round performance against ND.”

“Wellington possess their own unique challenge and are a tough, experienced side. We will need to be at our best with both bat and ball to tip them up at the Basin,” O’Donnell says.

Aces Skipper Craig Cachopa is happy with how the team are tracking, noting it has been a full squad effort thus far in the one-day format.

“It’s pleasing to see guys like Michael Barry stepping up for the team. He had a superb all-round day with bat, ball and in the field against Northern Districts and will be hoping for more of the same against Wellington,” says Cachopa.
