BROKEN
is a modern retelling of the true NZ story of ‘Tarore
and her Book’ made popular by beloved author Joy
Cowley. The film will debut at a Gisborne premiere on
January 25 before opening in cinemas across NZ on February
1.
The song (in part) plays in the feature film and in full as during the films credits.
The lyrics in this song act as a 'shadow' of Logan, the lead character in the film. Logan an ex-gang leader, has left the gang life to raise his daughter Tori. When Tori is murdered by an opposing gang in town, Logan must choose between forgiveness or revenge as things quickly escalate towards an inevitable gang war. This song reflects on the themes of forgiveness, despair and hope that are evident throughout the film.
The music video was
initially shared on the films official Facebook page on
Saturday and has already received over 26,500 views.

Rodney Finau shares “Being a young boy from South Auckland growing up in the hood, I was forced to find comfort in a lot of things that ruined me. But I was able to find that peace I’d been longing for. So, for me, being able to share that there is hope - through singing - was very special.”
Kwick Andzue adds “As a young Maori from the East Coast it was always a dream of mine to share my talents with New Zealand, and getting a role in the movie BROKEN was on another level, I am so grateful.”
