Management changes at 95bfm

Hugh Sundae has announced his resignation as General Manager of 95bFM.
This caps off a period of massive change for the independent radio station, including key on-air hosts, the rollout of a new website*, strengthening the relationship with the student body, and audience growth.
Rejuvenating bFM’s vital volunteer base was another major priority over the last three years.
Current Administration Assistant Caitlin McIlhagga has also been instrumental in rejuvenating the volunteer base and will move into the GM role. McIlhagga has been a part of bFM for over six years, including as badass interviewer on current affairs show, The Wire .
“Becoming General Manager of the station I was raised on is an honour and a privilege, but also a huge responsibility,” she says. “Safeguarding independent media like bFM is no easy task - but the goal will always be to ensure the kids listening to the bFM Kids’ Show now can grow up to be involved in the next 20 years of the b too.”
In addition to her bFM experience, McIlhagga has recently finished a Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Laws at the University of Auckland, achieved while also working at a small accounting practice specialising in company compliance and reporting obligations.
Sundae describes the last three years as a tightrope walk balancing old and new.
“We’ve brought back Bombathon fundraising drives and have been through difficult on-air and off-air restructures as we fight for survival in a difficult media environment. To come through that with even more talented and driven volunteers than before makes me extremely confident about bFM’s future.
“For our new leadership to be young talent from within says a lot about our intentions.”
His departure also brings change to the management of bFM’s programming, which he had overseen since late 2016. To ease this transition Sarah Thomson, producer of the Mikey Havoc Breakfast Show, will take over as Programme Director on a three-month secondment.
“Having Caitlin and Sarah in those key roles is bloody exciting, I almost want to come back as a volunteer,” says Sundae. “I won’t, though.”
Sundae’s last day is Friday, March 2nd. Caitlin & Sarah take up their new positions on Monday, March 5, 2018.
