Christmas at Corrections

Christmas at Corrections

Each year Corrections receives a number of queries about how Christmas is acknowledged in prison. This year we have put together a range of information, including a video, about the Christmas meal and how prisoners have been lending their skills to help others in the lead up to the holiday season.

This year’s Christmas lunch consists of chicken and vegetables with dessert and two mini fruit mince pies, and is the same across all Corrections-run prisons.

In recent weeks, prisoners At Whanganui Prison have made and donated toys for children in hospital, Auckland prisoners have restored children’s bikes for distribution to families in need and prisoners at Christchurch Women’s Prison have worked with volunteers from the Howard League to record themselves reading a children’s book – with the CD and book then sent to their child as a gift.
