Uenuku appoints manager to support iwi development
Uenuku Charitable Trust has appointed a new project manager to help lead the next phase of growth and development of the
whānau, hapū and iwi of Uenuku, Tamakana and Tamahaki.
Business and development consultant Honey Winter started work this week as the Kāhui Pou Project Manager for the
Raetihi-based tribal authority. She will support the establishment of three entities that will generate initiatives to
achieve the economic, cultural, social, educational and environmental aspirations of the three iwi of Uenuku, Tamakana
and Tamahaki.
The first of the three entities, a social and cultural trust, was launched in Raetihi on November 22. An environmental
trust and a commercial trust will soon follow.
Mrs Winter, who has 20 years’ experience in the health, education, social, environment and business sectors, said she
looks forward to the challenges of her new role and the opportunity to help drive iwi development that will benefit not
only the people of the three tribes but the community as a whole.
“It is incredibly exciting to come on board with Uenuku at this time of potential, planning and progress. Key objectives
will be generating and implementing strategic plans for development both now and in the post-Treaty settlement phase,
and we will be guided in our strategic direction by our whānau, hapū and other stakeholders.
“Even as we look to the opportunities that post-Treaty settlement development will bring, we also have the challenge now
of innovatively building a continuous quality improvement organisation into the future, and to develop people and
leadership potential within an inclusive and valued environment.”
