Bundy Philpott Rises to Top 3 Star Event at Puhinui

With a final day Jumping clear round Cambridge’s Bundy Philpott rose from third place to claim the top spot in the Puhinui International Three day event on Sunday. Philpott and her horse, Tresca NZPH, were in third after Fridays dressage and retained their place following the cross country phase. But Philpott’s extensive show jumping experience showed on the final day when she was the only competitor to jump a clear round over the Pip Howells designed course. The two ahead of her had 4 rails (Corey Wood) and a single pole down for long-time leader Emily Cammock to hand Tresca NZPH the win.

Bundy has had the horse since he was a 4 year old and bought him along slowly to the top level in New Zealand. He is now 11. And while Tresca NZPH is not for sale the second placegetter is! Emily Cammock has had an excellent weekend with Shaw Lee and in spite of the single rail down costing her the title she was very upbeat about her horse. “He was amazing out there, and has been all weekend! It was my mistake - just not quite getting the stride right. But I need to buy a new truck and so sadly he could be sold to fund the new purchase.”

Third place went to Kaiapoi’s Corey Wood with the horse he has been known to use for pig hunting – one of his favourite pastimes, and a reason he enjoys living in the South Island. “Mum won’t let me do it now as she says he’s too valuable” Corey said, but you get the feeling Pick Up Line has a very varied and entertaining life. The horse was clearly a little tired on day 3 and had 4 rails down but Corey was clearly delighted, and somewhat surprised to finish in the top 3.

The iSpy horses 2* competition produced a masterclass in professionalism from Clarke Johnstone and Wolf Whistle II. Third after the dressage they finished on that score to win emphatically from Angela Lloyd and Lyrical who held their second place despite 3 rails down. Puhinui’s hard working event secretary Dianne Gilder became the master of quick costume changes and rode her Australian thoroughbred Your Attorney into third after a slow start with 14thplace in the dressage. After working in Australia for some time Dianne bought Your Attorney home with her and he certainly won’t be leaving home anytime soon. Dianne plans to move Your Attorney back up to three star in the autumn season.

There were changes to the lead in the Honda New Zealand CCI 2* Young Rider class too with overnight leader Sophie Alexander and World Famous having 2 of the coloured poles down and dropping to 4th. The door was opened and Jackson Bovill riding Visionaire jumped the only clear round to snatch the lead from Beth Wilson and Alto and Audax (2nd) with Kimberley Rear rising to 3rd

Both 1* classes were won convincingly with all the way wins for Emily Cammock (Impeccable) in the Veterinary Associates 1* and Kate Herdson (Eon) in the Devi Heating Systems 1* Junior Rider. Caroline Howell (Telestory) and Fenella Carter (Absolou) filled 2nd and 3rd in the Junior rider, while Aleisha Collett (Mi Focus) and Sarah Young (Equador MW) completed the open 1* line-up.
