MTV Brings Back a Classic

MTV Brings Back a Classic

Christmas has come early for SKY TV customers as MTV Classic returns after a two-year break.

Launching today, Friday December 8, at 10am, MTV Classic is a 24-hour music channel that delivers the biggest hits from the 1980s to the 2000s.

The channel showcases iconic artists such as Madonna, Duran Duran, Michael Jackson, Bon Jovi, Spice Girls, Queen, U2, Whitney Houston and Prince.

MTV Music has proven to be a popular choice among SKY customers and has seen strong growth over the last few months, particularly amongst youth audiences. Its success, together with the rising trend for nostalgia, has fueled the relaunch of MTV Classic to New Zealand audiences.

MTV Music regularly outperforms its major competitors, but it was clear we were missing the hits and artists that can only be featured on MTV Classic – and let’s face it, there’s no such thing as too much Queen or Duran Duran” said Simon Bates, VP of MTV Australia and New Zealand.

“Around the world we’ve been witnessing a massive trend towards nostalgia and paying homage to the 80s and 90s in particular. MTV is a brand that was born in the heart of that era so we’re excited to bring the classic hits back to Kiwi audiences,” he added.

MTV Classic (SKY Channel 123 and 116) will launch on Friday December 8 at 10am.
