Who Was Queen Margaret?
A daughter, princess, wife, queen, mother, warmonger, widow and crone...a monster? She Wolf, a comedic commentary on a
dramatic characterization written and performed by Canadian comedian Gillian English is coming to New Zealand Fringe in
2018.
From Award Winning performer, Gillian English comes: She Wolf. A show about Shakespeare's propaganda concerning Queen Margaret of Anjou from 500 years ago to shine a light on where
we are in the 21st century. The question still begs to be asked: If all history remembers of you are the lies, does the
truth even matter?
Margaret was a French Princess and an English Queen. Demonized in her time and mythologized through history, she has
become more legend than lady. But who was Queen Margaret; where was the divide between personal and personal and
political? 'She Wolf' is a comedic exploration of the infamous Queen as presented by Shakespeare in 4 monologues that
laid the foundation for a mythical monster.
Premiering at Melbourne Fringe in 2017 to critical acclaim, in ‘She Wolf’ Gillian English “takes the big guns on and

Gillian English is an award winning Canadian actor, storyteller, comedian and writer living in Australia.
"I have always been drawn to the character, because she was so real, so viscerally evil, that as a character, she jumped
off the page and throttled you by the throat. But as I grew older, and learned to look more critically at the way we
judge women in power, the scrutiny with which we examine them, and the lies by which their character is manipulated; I
realized that there had to be more to Margaret than being a character in oft forgot, seldom performed plays."
