Rotary New Zealand World Community Service And Giving Tuesday
Rotary New Zealand’s World Community Service is mindful of annual Giving Tuesday, this year 28 November 2017, another day when the public have an opportunity to make a donation to a charity. In New Zealand, Rotary recognises that giving patterns may have changed in recent years due to a number of factors. Firstly, the generation that is now the oldest seemingly have been the most generous. Secondly, one of trust – donors more than ever are asking “at what expense will this donation be to me, the donor”. They want to be comfortable with the percentage that goes to the end user. To determine that in New Zealand, the answer may simply be found in the financials of the annual report of bona fide charities: www.register.charities.govt.nz Thirdly, donors seem more often to give on the basis of emotion, followed by compassion and for the more astute, outcomes. Rotary recognises the distinction between a “voluntary” and a “volunteer” charity. Whilst both groups have the same ethic and aspire to do good in the world, the members of a “volunteer” charity are conscious of giving more “bang for the buck” given the most valued commodity for their efforts is time coupled with a desired outcome of “giving back” value for money. Rotary New Zealand World Community Service, a registered charity www.rnzwcs.org invites donors to consider making a donation this Giving Tuesday. Rotary aspires to “service above self” recognisant of “it’s not about them, but about those in the world who are in greatest need.” END
