Waiata Mai brings top Kiwi musicians to the Hawke’s Bay
Some of Aotearoa’s finest musicians are heading to the stage for one spectacular night of stars, songs and singalongs in Havelock North next month.
Held on Saturday 2 December at Black Barn Vineyards, Waiata Mai brings together a stellar line-up of some of the country’s most dynamic powerhouses.
Dave Dobbyn, Anika Moa, Maisey Rika, Tami Neilson, Rob Ruha, Troy Kingi and Teeks will be taking to the Black Barn Amphitheatre to perform well-known hits as well as a few surprises from their Māori songbook. St Joseph’s Maori Girls’ College Choir and local kapa haka Kahurangi will be joining the artists on stage.
Well-known musician, Musical Director and Producer, Tama Waipara is the creative director of the event and says he is excited to bring all seven musicians to one venue. “All of these artists are incredibly talented but also very busy, so to be able to get them all together is really special.
“Most of them have been performing overseas, so this is a rare opportunity for New Zealanders to see them live – it’s really a dream line-up.”
The inaugural event is set to be a fun, laid-back evening, where concert-goers are encouraged to relax under the stars and sing along to their favourite tunes.
Waiata Mai promises more than two hours of musical entertainment for the whole family with a playlist that includes much loved songs such as Dreams in my head (Anika Moa), Slice of heaven & a new Māori version of Welcome Home / Nau Mai Rā (Dave Dobbyn) and Holy Moses (Tami Neilson) plus well-known Māori anthems Pōkarekare Ana and Hine e Hine.
The stunning Black Barn Amphitheatre provides the perfect location for the musical event, with large flat grassed terraces providing uninterrupted views of the stage and the beautiful Hawkes Bay.
Tickets to the all ages concert are priced from $75 + booking fee and can be purchased from www.blackbarn.com.
Gates open at 6pm.
