Five of New Zealand’s rising operatic stars in a one-off opera experience
St Andrews on the Terrace will again play host to a unique one-off opera concert featuring five young opera singers who
are New Zealand’s best and brightest hopes for the future.
The concert “Singers to Listen For” is presented by the Rotary Club of Wellington as a celebration of New Zealand’s talent and as a fundraiser for Project
Hope for children’s vaccinations in the Pacific, and equipment for the Wellington Children’s Hospital.
This concert is organised in association with the Kiri te Kanawa Foundation. The singers will be assisted by Dame Kiri’s
personal accompanist, Terence Dennis.
“New Zealand continues to discover emerging talent in its younger singers” says Peter Lawson, Rotary Club of Wellington
President. “Four of the singers with potential for international careers – Natasha Wilson, Manase Latu, Ipu Laga’aia and
Samson Setu – have been selected for the Kiri Te Kanawa Singer Development Programme.
“Of these four singers, the three men are also part of an outstanding vocal group “The Shades” and for this concert they
will be joined by the fine young baritone, Mataka Vuni. They bring a distinctive blend of Polynesian fun and superb
singing.”

Natasha – “is an exciting and naturally compelling performer who possesses class and charisma.”
Manase – “has an extraordinary gift for phrasing, language and communication. Add to this his beautiful voice and you have the
complete package.”
Ipu - “the sound of his voice reminded me of the great tenors, in particular, the young Pavarotti.”
Samson – “he has a world class bass baritone voice. There is something in the quality of sound that calls to mind the operatic
greats.”
Singers to Listen For will be held on Friday 10 November 2017 at St Andrews on The Terrace, Wellington at 6pm.
