New self-drive JetSprint experience delivers fun and thrills
A world first, adrenaline-rush experience has opened in Auckland that puts you in the driving seat of a gutsy, 100HP SuperThriller JetSprint boat, racing the clock around a twisting, man-made lake circuit.
“Think supercharged go-kart on water and you’re getting the idea,” says one of SuperThriller JetSprint’s owners, Teresa Ciprian.
NZ owned and operated, self-drive SuperThriller JetSprint located at the recently opened Colin Dale action-sport venue in Manukau, provides an entertainment experience that’s fun, exciting, challenging and safe in a controlled environment.
“We’ve made the sport of jetsprinting available for thrill-seekers over the age of 13 to have a go,” says Teresa. “Driving these boats is a real circuit breaker. Taking charge of your own speed boat, wind in your face, the engine roaring as you take on the clock is exhilarating. I love seeing people’s reactions when they’ve completed their laps and checked their times – the laughter and fist pumps say it all.”
The JetSprint boats are designed by kiwi jetsprint innovator and owner, Mark Coggan and are built in New Zealand. Easy to drive for the two-person crew, highly responsive, lively and stable, but demanding enough to thrill with the rush of sound, speed and spray as drivers test their driving and navigating skills through the straights and turns with the pedal down.
Performance relies on the accuracy and speed of the driver and co-driver, and the strategy, communication, advice and enthusiasm from their supporting crew to boost technique and confidence to knock the seconds off the clock with each successive lap and make it to the top of the leader board.
Event experience packages are available for groups and corporates as well as family and social outings.
The group events, which can be tailor-made, test collaboration, decision making, playing to strengths and refining strategy and tactics to bring home the best times with clear runs.
“The feedback from corporates who’ve come out for a team building event is that this is a stand-out experience. Participants get completely caught up in the competitive and performance elements,” Teresa said. “It’s not physically demanding but loads of fun and a real confidence booster. It certainly brings people out of their shell. You’ll see surprised reactions from teammates when someone they thought was quiet and unassuming blasts across the finish line to set a new lap record.”
Certified by Maritime NZ, all participants go through a safety briefing, are kitted up and guided through a practice lap to familiarise themselves with the boat, the course and the timing system before the sprints begin.
