Dream car up for grabs in Fast & Furious Racing
Hampton Downs is offering arguably the richest prize in New Zealand motorsport history to celebrate the launch of the
new Fast & Furious Racing format at the Laser Plumbing & Electrical Hampton Downs 500 next weekend (October 28-29).
Everyone who enters the 4 Guys Autobarn Fast & Furious Racing category — which is open to all race cars provided they have a full roll cage and a MotorSport New
Zealand log book – will go in the draw to win a Supercharged 6.2L 2010 Chevrolet Camaro valued at $52,000.
“I think if you trawled through the history books, you’d struggle to find a more valuable prize in New Zealand
motorsport history,” says Mike Marsden, Commercial Manager at Hampton Downs.
Anyone who fancies their chance has two bites at the cherry. The first Fast & Furious Racing event will debut at the Hampton Downs 500. Round 2 will be at Mad Mike’s Summer Bash on December 9. The
winner will be drawn at the Summer Bash when one lucky punter will drive away in the Chevy Camaro. Entries for both
rounds are limited to 40 cars so you’ve got a 1 in 80 chance of winning or a 1 in 40 chance if you enter both rounds.
“It costs $595 to enter each round and for that you get a raffle ticket to win the car and a weekend of top class motor
racing on Hampton Downs international circuit,” says Marsden. “It doesn't get much better than that.”
Fast & Furious Racing has been described as motorsport’s version of Rugby Sevens or Twenty20 Cricket. The goal is to deliver
short, action-packed races that give spectators and drivers alike more bang for their buck.
The 3x3 format will see cars line up on the grid for the race start as per usual. The twist is that after three laps,
the cars will come together behind a safety car for a rolling restart and another three-lap sprint to the finish line.
All entrants will be qualified into different speed categories and will contest four races at the Hampton Downs 500 as
well as practice and qualifying laps. The fastest qualifiers will start at the front of the grid in Race 1. A reverse
grid will be used to determine the starting order in Races 2 and 4 while the driver’s combined times will decide who
starts on pole for Race 3. Competitors will score points based on where they finish in each of the four races.
