Scandi-New Zealand crime drama in the works

TVNZ has added Straight Forward, an ambitious global co-production, to its 2018 line-up. Partnering with production companies and broadcasters in Denmark and US, this marks TVNZ’s furthest-reaching international co-production to date.

Bringing together New Zealand’s stunning scenery with Scandinavia’s reputation for crime-noir, Straight Forward promises to be an unmissable television event. Filmed in Queenstown and Copenhagen, the eight-part series follows a Danish woman’s attempts to leave her criminal past behind her by moving to a small New Zealand town.

Cate Slater, TVNZ Director of Content says “Straight Forward is an exciting TVNZ co-production that blends the very best of local and international drama. Co-productions are giving us the ability to tell our stories on a global stage. We’re excited to bring New Zealand viewers their own Nordic-noir packed with thrills and twisted with home-grown flavour.”

Straight Forward is a Viaply original drama developed by Screentime New Zealand with partners Mastiff Denmark both Banijay Group companies.

Created by award-winning writer, John Banas (Resolve, Dear Murderer), the 8 x 1 hour series will be co-produced by TVNZ, along with Scandinavian streaming service, Viaplay and in association with Acorn Media Enterprises and Acorn TV, the leading North American streaming service for world-class television.

Philly de Lacey, Screentime Chief Executive Officer says “ We are incredibly excited about this sexy, edgy international crime caper. The international nature of the story works naturally as a co-production and we’re delighted to partner with Mastiff to realise John’s wonderful scripts. The series will keep viewers glued to their screens as they wait to see just what protagonist Robyn Forward will do next…”

TVNZ will be the first to bring Straight Forward to New Zealand audiences and the worldwide premiere will be on Viaplay’s streaming service in 2018. Acorn Media Enterprises and Banijay Rights will hold rights and distribute in other territories.
