David Friesen Plays Wellington’s Newest Jazz Venue
Legendary Jazz Bassist David Friesen at Wellington's Pyramid Club - Friday 20 October.
David Friesen (USA) has
recorded over 65 CD's as a leader/ co-leader and appeared as
a sideman or featured artist on more than 100 recordings. He
has performed and/or recorded with famous jazz musos such as
Stan Getz, Dexter Gordon, Joe Henderson, Sam Rivers, Michael
Brecker, Dizzy Gillespie, Freddy Hubbard, Mal Waldron, Jaki
Byard, Chick Corea, John Scofield, Elvin Jones, Jack
Dejohnette, and many others. Friesen was listed as one of
the 24 most influential bassists in the history of jazz by
jazz educators on a recent Jazz Bass Survey. Friesen
characterises his music as harmonically and melodically
creative original compositions.
Friesen is touring around New Zealand, promoting his latest album Another Time, Another Place, recorded live at Auckland's Creative Jazz Club in 2015 and released on the NZ label Rattle Records. Accompanying David are Kiwi band mates Dixon Nacey (guitar) and Reuben Bradley (drums), both acclaimed musicians in their own right.
Doors to the Pyramid Club opens at 7:30 PM with music starting approximately 8 PM.
