Musicians Support Hospice in Family-Friendly Rock Fest

Musicians give their time to support Hospice in family-friendly Rock fest

Over six hours of foot-tapping entertainment is on offer from some of New Zealand’s rock nobility at Greenhithe annual event Rock the Hithe, to raise funds for Hospice North Shore.

The line-up includes longstanding fixtures like Shane & the Shazam Band and Marian Burns & the McSweeney Brothers. This year new additions include Shane Cortese and Suzanne Lynch & Friends.

Tickets are just $30 per person, with kids under 12 free. Or you can upgrade to a VIP ticket and receive a fruit and cheese platter, waiter service and a two-course meal prepared by Villa Maria’s executive chef.

Crowd favourites Marty Clark and his band the Groove Diggers are there in recognition of the support Marty’s ex-wife Donna received when she was dying.

Marty says he feels privileged to be giving his time to raise funds for “such an invaluable community service.”

“With Hospice care Donna was able to stay home as long as she could, enjoying time with family and friends and putting all her affairs in order,” says Marty. She also had a short stay in the inpatient unit, where she died. Marty found that time even more remarkable. “The care she received …. I’ve never seen anything like it,” he says. “Everyone at Hospice was just so compassionate and caring.”

Rock the Hithe was created six years ago, in recognition of the care of Christine Wykes, mother of the Greenhithe local Shireen Garrett. It has become a much-anticipated event across North Auckland.

Hospice gives free specialist care to people who are dying and to their families: mainly in their own homes. It provides physical, emotional and spiritual support that is possible only because of the generosity of our local community.
